CCCPA Deputy Director Hatem El-Atawy presented the Center’s activities, including United Nations (UN) Pre-deployment Trainings (PDT) conducted for Egyptian peacekeepers prior to their deployment to UN peacekeeping missions, including MONUSCO. The trainings are conducted in close cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Defense, in accordance with General Assembly resolution A/RES/49/37.

Discussions touched on forging closer cooperation with UN missions, with the aim of  building the capacities of peacekeepers through in-mission trainings on preventing sexual exploitation and abuse, conflict related sexual violence, disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, and international human rights law & international humanitarian law. CCCPA has also offered to include MONUSCO personnel in its other upcoming training activities (in addition to PDT).

In his remarks, Lieutenant General Mgwebi expressed his appreciation for CCCPA’s efforts in maintaining African peace and security. In particular, he commended the Center’s work related to “Preventing Radicalization and Extremism Leading to Terrorism in Africa”.

CCCPA previously hosted the UN Global Training of Trainers Course on Core Pre-deployment Training Materials (October 2016) and the UN Senior Mission Leaders Training Course (June 2015), in partnership with the UN Integrated Training Service and the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
