Cairo, Egypt – CCCPA conducted its first training for the year on “Gender Mainstreaming in Peacemaking, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding in Africa" from 21-25 May 2017. 
 
The course aims to enhance participants' understanding of the particularities of gender needs in peace and security, as well as the unique role that women play in peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding. The training covered a wide range of topics, including the international and regional policy framework on women, peace and security; conflict and gender analysis tools; and gender-specific considerations in peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding.
 
A distinctive feature of this training is its focus on practical exercises. The training is scenario-based, and participants were given the chance to interact with the subject matter in a simulated environment. Specifically, participants were asked to act out four scenarios related to the following topics: sexual exploitation and abuse, conflict-related gender-based violence, ensuring women’s participation in elections, and the humanitarian situation in internally displaced camps. 

Twenty-two diplomats, military, and police officers joined in the five-day training course. Countries represented were Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Tunisia, and Egypt.
