Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – CCCPA participated in an Expert Group Meeting organized by the Office of the Special Adviser in Africa (OSAA), from 26-27 July 2017, under the theme "The Role of Early Warning in Silencing the Guns--Enhancing the United Nations Support for Peace and Development Dimensions of Agenda 2063".
 
In the framework of United Nations (UN) - AU cooperation, the meeting aimed to enhance UN support for the implementation of the AU Agenda 2063 by bringing together relevant stakeholders to strengthen CEWS and its relevant units within the Regional Economic Communities (RECs). The meeting saw the participation of experts from the Continental Early Warning System (CEWS) at the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States  (ECOWAS), the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD), representatives of the European Delegation to the African Union Commission, Oxfam International, West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP), as well as leading scholars from the Institute for Peace & Security Studies (IPSS), the African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD), and the Institute of Diplomacy and International Studies, and the Institute for Security Studies (ISS).
 
CCCPA Director Ashraf Swelam spoke on "The Role of Development Partners, Humanitarian Organizations and Think Tanks in Strengthening the Au Early Warning". He highlighted CCCPA's contribution to CEWS, including undertaking research on gender-sensitivity in early warning.
