Chairman of CCCPA's International Advisory Board Joins the African Union's Panel of the Wise
20 October 2017

Cairo, Egypt – H.E. Amre Moussa, Chairman of CCCPA's International Advisory Board and former Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, has become the first Egyptian to join the African Union (AU) Panel of the Wise (PoW). Moussa succeeds H.E. Lakhdar Brahimi of Algeria, another distinguished member of CCCPA’s International Advisory Board, as the representative of the North Africa region.

The PoW is one of the pillars of the African Peace and Security Architecture. Five highly distinguished members (one from each African region) are chosen to serve a three-year term based on their “outstanding contributions to the cause of peace, security and development”. Moussa will join Nobel Peace Prize laureate and former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia (West Africa), former Minister for Social Affairs of Gabom Honorine Nzet Bitéghé (Central Africa), former President of Namibia Hifikepunye Pohamba (Southern African) and former Vice President of Uganda Dr. Specioza Naigaga Wandira Kazibwe (East Africa).

Established in December 2007, the panel aims to support efforts of the AU’s Peace and Security Council and the Chairperson of the AU Commission, particularly in conflict prevention, national reconciliation, preserving the rights of women and children in armed conflicts, democracy and governance.

CCCPA congratulates H.E. Amre Moussa for his appointment and hopes that it will contribute to further enhancing cooperation between CCCPA and the African Union in overcoming challenges to African peace, security and stability.
