Cairo, Egypt – CCCPA organized its third foundational course on “Conflict Resolution and Mediation” from 22–26 October 2017. The course, which gathered 10 participants, targeted Egyptian mid-level career diplomats. 
 
The five-day course--developed by CCCPA--aims to improve the capacities of Egyptian diplomats on the design of mediation processes and enhance their mediation and negotiation skills. Topics covered the definition of conflict, its characteristics, and dynamics; approaches addressing different types of violence; the five styles of negotiation; conflict analysis; third party interventions; and fundamentals of mediation.
 
As a simulation-based training, participants are able to apply theoretical components of mediation design in facilitation & mediation exercises and rounds of negotiations. Participants also have the chance to understand negotiation patterns, and practice concepts such as best-alternative to negotiated agreement (BATNA), and multi-party mediation.  
 
The training comes as part of the current UNDP project funded by the Government of Japan, “Consolidating Peace, Security and Stability in Africa-2017/2018”.
