Cairo, Egypt - The CCCPA and AMISOM partnership successfully completed its 4th training on gender, international humanitarian law and human rights in peacekeeping and peacebuilding. The training was the final in the current series targeting in-mission participants serving/seconded to the African Union Mission in Somalia. The course aimed to raise awareness of the challenges ahead so that negative experiences can be avoided, or at least minimized.
 
The course content was adapted to a combined context in order to meet the specific needs of the three components of the mission (military, police and civilian). A variety of topics were covered including international humanitarian law and human rights; the different aspects of a peacekeeping mission (cycle and legal status of personnel); and the role of gender in peacekeeping operations.
 
A total of 23 participants attended the training, representing Uganda, Kenya, Egypt, Somalia, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Cameroon and Burundi.
 
The training was conducted in partnership with EAPD (Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development) and Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna University in Italy, and comes within the framework of the project “Enhancing the Capacity of Local Actors in Efforts to Improve Peace and Security in North Africa, the Sahel and the Great Lakes regions”. The project is being implemented by the Center and funded by the Government of Japan in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program.
