Tunis, Tunisia – CCCPA’s Peacemaking and Peacebuilding Program Associate, Ms. Darin Hany, participated in the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) in Tunisia, which took place from 29 September to 10 October 2024. The mission was established to observe the presidential election’s first round and ensure transparency, integrity, and credibility throughout the process.
Led by H.E. Komi Selom KLASSOU, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Togo, the AUEOM comprised 40 Short Term Observers (STO) from 21 African Union member states, including ambassadors, parliamentarians, election management experts, and civil society representatives. The observers monitored key electoral stages, including the campaign's final days, the opening of polling stations, voting operations, and vote counting.
Ms. Darin Hany’s participation follows her earlier training at the "Strengthening Pan-African Capacities for Electoral Observation and Assistance (SPEC)" program, held in May 2024 in Nairobi, Kenya, aimed at equipping youth and women with critical skills for election observation.
The AUEOM worked in accordance with international, continental, and regional standards and engaged with stakeholders in Tunisia's electoral process.
This is the first time CCCPA participates in such an African Union Election Observation mission.
