Cairo, Egypt – CCCPA hosted delegations from the League of Arab States (LAS), the Arab Women Mediators Network (AWMN), and the Global Alliance for Regional Women Mediator Networks on 15 December 2022 to discuss the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda in the Arab region.
The exchange focused on efforts to advance the participation of women in peace processes, capacitating women mediators, as well as means to leverage the full potential of women mediator networks in conflict resolution and sustaining peace.
The visit to the Center took place on the sidelines of the dialogue session on the institutionalization of the Work of the Arab Network of Women Mediators of Peace organized by LAS and UN Women.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Ahmed Abdel-Latif, Director General of CCCPA showcased the Center’s WPS activities since its inception in 2012. In addition, he emphasized the contribution of women mediator networks in advancing the meaningful participation of women in conflict resolution and peacebuilding and the importance of effectively operationalizing such networks to achieve their full potential. He also hailed AWMN as an important milestone in implementing the WPS agenda in the region.
On her part, H.E. Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary General, Head of Social Affairs Sector at LAS, highlighted the successful collaboration between LAS and CCCPA in the context of operationalizing AWMN through technical support and capacity building—referring in particular to the first in-person training for network members organized in November 2021. She also stated that she looked forward to further collaboration with CCCPA.
