CCCPA’s peacekeeping expert attended the pilot testing of the African Standby Force (ASF) Generic Military Pre-Deployment Training Package, organized by the Commission of the African Union through the Peace Support Operations Division (PSOD), in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 21 March to 1 April 2022.
The pilot curriculum testing–held at the Southern African Development Community Regional Peacekeeping Training Centre–targeted trainers of the ASF/AU PSO at the Continental and Regional Planning Elements as well as key representatives of training centres of excellence and training institutions.
Objectives of the pilot included testing the relevance of the package modules; assessing the logical flow of the course content; reviewing content to meet training objectives; and assessing training methodologies, exercises and training aids recommended in the curriculum.
The expected outcome of the pilot is to validate if the training package provides participants with the required knowledge, skills, and attitudes to effectively perform their roles as military personnel in any future ASF and PSO deployments.
